1. Signing up + Stripe payouts
Head to kidsaivideo.com/creator and create an account. You'll pick a display name (shown publicly on every video and series you post) and verify your email.
Once your email is verified, open the Studio dashboard. Before you can see any money, you connect Stripe:
- Click Connect Stripe on your dashboard.
- Stripe collects your legal identity, address, and bank details. KiVio never sees your bank account — we talk to Stripe Connect only.
- Stripe redirects you back here when they're done. The dashboard flips to show Payouts enabled.
2. How the 70/30 coin economy works
Parents buy coin bundles from KiVio with real money. When their kid unlocks one of your paid episodes, we split the coins:
- 70% to you (the creator) — your creator share.
- 30% to KiVio — the platform cut that pays for moderation, CDN, Stripe fees, and the ongoing engineering of the autonomous pipeline.
Your 70% share sits in Pending escrow for 14 days before it moves to Available. Once it's Available, you can request a payout to your Stripe-connected bank. The 14-day hold is standard chargeback-protection: if a parent disputes the Stripe charge inside that window, we return their coins without us (or you) being out of pocket.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending escrow | Earned but still inside the 14-day chargeback window. |
| Available | Cleared. Request a payout anytime. |
| Paid out | Sent to your Stripe-connected bank. |
Creators with prior chargebacks sit in a 30-day escrow instead of 14. One clean quarter rolls you back to 14.
3. Coin → dollar converter
Our exchange rate is simple: 1 coin = $0.01. A 100-coin bundle costs the parent $1.00. Type any number below to see your creator share.
Based on current platform rates. The exact split is snapshotted on each sale so you always see what you'd actually earn.
4. Series first: why standalone videos earn nothing
KiVio organizes content around series, not single clips. A series is a container with a planned total number of episodes; our pricing engine uses that total to decide which episodes are free hooks and which cost coins to unlock.
So the first thing to do, before you upload anything you want to monetize, is create a series.
5. Creating a series step by step
- Open the Studio dashboard and scroll to the Series card.
- Enter a series title. Short and specific wins — "The Little Rocket Baker" reads better than "Baking adventures of a small rocket."
- Enter Planned episodes. This locks the shape of your pricing bands. For a 10-episode series you'll get roughly 3 free hooks, 6 mid-tier paid episodes, and 1 final-tier paid episode.
- Optional: premiere date (shows up on the New Releases rail) and a one-sentence description.
- Decide if the series is Exclusive to KiVio (see below).
- Pick a Commission bucket (see below). For a regular catalog series leave it on None.
- Click Create series.
Our pricing bands (count-based) for a planned total of N episodes:
| Episode position | Price | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First 30% | Free | Discovery hook. Kids and parents can watch without spending. |
| Next 55% | 2 coins (~$0.02) | Mid-tier paid. The bulk of a series. |
| Final 15% | 3 coins (~$0.03) | Finale premium. |
Minimum 1 free episode and 1 final-tier episode when a series exists. A 3-episode series is 1 free + 1 mid + 1 final; a 20-episode series is 6 free + 11 mid + 3 final.
The cost of each episode is locked at the time the video goes live. Changing the planned total later doesn't rebalance already-published episodes.
6. The "Exclusive to KiVio" toggle
Checking Exclusive to KiVio — publish this series only on KiVio at series creation routes it onto the Exclusives tab in our catalog, which lifts it above non-exclusive content in cold-start ranking. The commitment is yours: you're telling parents this content lives on KiVio and nowhere else.
7. Public vs Private commission series
Right next to Exclusive to KiVio you'll see three mutually-exclusive radio options for the series' Commission bucket:
| Option | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| None | A regular catalog series. Default. Episodes publish into the public catalog using the pricing bands above. |
| Public series for client requests | Bucket for commissioned custom content that goes public on delivery. On the parent's confirmation, the delivered video stays public and auto-saves to the commissioning parent's kids as a gift. |
| Private series for client requests | Family-only. The delivered video is visible only to the commissioning parent and their children — hidden from every public feed, search result, and other creator's view. The parent sees it on their Personal Videos dashboard card; the kids see it on their Saved shelf. Nobody else can watch it. |
The commission bucket is also set at creation and locked after. Pick carefully — a creator who flips a series mid-flight could burn family trust.
8. Using the AI Suggest buttons
Several form fields in Studio have a small AI Suggest chip in the corner. These call our in-house copilot (powered by GPT) to generate a draft based on what you've typed so far.
- Series title Suggest — type a rough idea ("rocket kid who bakes muffins"), click Suggest, and KiVio returns a few polished title options you can accept with one click.
- Series description Suggest — uses the title as context to write a one-sentence hook for the New Releases card.
- Video title Suggest — same pattern, scoped to the clip's series.
Suggest is optional — you can ignore it and type your own copy anytime. If a suggestion isn't quite right, you can Swap for a fresh set or edit the accepted text directly.
9. Uploading your first video
- In the Studio dashboard, open Upload episodes (sits right under the Series card for a reason — pick a series first).
- Pick the series this episode belongs to from the dropdown. Standalone (no series) is allowed but will route to the Free Singles bucket — see section 4.
- Pick the episode number. The uploader prefills the next unpublished number for the series.
- Give it a title. AI Suggest works here too.
- Drag your MP4 or MOV into the upload area. KiVio presigns a direct-to-S3 upload, so your bytes never pass through our API.
- Click Register upload. The file enters the autonomous pipeline.
Live status appears next to each row in the My uploads card. States you'll see:
| State | What's happening |
|---|---|
INTAKE | Just uploaded. Queued for processing. |
QUALITY_CHECK | Probing format, resolution, duration, aspect ratio. |
MODERATION | AI-origin check, visual moderation, audio moderation. |
SAFE_LIVE | Published. Available to parents and kids. You just received your Certificate of Digital Platform Origin by email. |
REJECTED | Something failed. The row shows the reason inline (see below). |
10. Video requirements + policy
| Spec | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Orientation | Vertical (9:16 range: 0.43–0.72). iPhone 9:16, iPhone Pro 2.17:1, and folding-device formats all accepted. |
| Minimum resolution | 1080 × 1920 — same as a standard iPhone capture. |
| Duration | 5 seconds to 10 minutes. |
| Container / codec on upload | MP4 or MOV. We transcode to H.264/AAC MP4 for streaming — iPhone HEVC uploads work fine. |
| AI origin | KiVio is for AI-generated animation. Live-action captures are blocked at the AI-origin gate. |
| Content | COPPA-safe for the age tier the moderator assigns (3–5 / 6–9 / 10+). No violence, no sexual content, no drugs, no hate. |
| Audio | Spoken-word profanity + content safety labels are checked via automatic transcription. Captions are a free byproduct we store with your video. |
Every file you upload goes through a SHA-256 dedup pass against existing SAFE_LIVE content. Re-uploading the same bytes under a new title is rejected as a duplicate.
11. Rejection types and what to do
If a row flips to REJECTED the Studio library shows the reason inline. The common ones:
| Reason | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio outside vertical band | The video is wider or narrower than our vertical range. | Re-render vertically (iPhone-style 9:16). |
| Resolution below 1080×1920 | Too small for retina displays. | Export at a higher resolution. |
| Duration out of range | Under 5 seconds or over 10 minutes. | Trim or extend. |
| AI-origin REJECT | Our classifier read the frames as live-action. | Confirm the content is AI-generated. If it is, re-render with cleaner animation cues (no live-action reference footage in the frame). |
| Moderation hit | Visual or audio content triggered a safety label above threshold. | Review which category (violence / sexual / drugs / hate) in the row's reason text; re-edit and re-upload. |
| Duplicate | Byte-exact match against an existing SAFE_LIVE video on the platform. | Either you already uploaded this, or another creator did. If it's genuinely yours, open a support ticket. |
| Pipeline error | A transient infra failure (S3, transcode, Rekognition). | Click re-upload. The error tag in the reason text helps our team debug if it keeps happening. |
For a REJECTED row you can delete it directly from the Studio library — click Delete on the row. Rejected content never earned coins, so there's no audit trail to protect.
12. Replace a mistake instead of deleting
If a video is SAFE_LIVE and you just want to swap in a corrected version, use the Replace button on the row. Replace keeps the same video ID, series position, episode number, and all existing unlocks and views — the parents who already paid don't lose their purchase and the engagement history isn't orphaned.
13. Request admin deletion of a live video
If you genuinely need a SAFE_LIVE video off the platform (legal reason, personal retraction, a content update that can't be a Replace), use the 🗑 Request deletion button next to each live row.
- Click Request deletion.
- Write a short reason — at least 10 characters, 1000 max. Be specific; the admin reads this.
- Submit. The row collapses to "Deletion request submitted."
- An admin reviews the queue and either approves (video is deleted, parents who unlocked may be refunded case-by-case) or rejects (video stays, admin leaves a note).
Good reasons we'll usually approve:
- Legal takedown you received from an upstream rights holder.
- Content update where Replace isn't possible (series renumbering, consolidating two episodes into one).
- Personal retraction (you no longer want this content under your name).
- Discovered a moderation miss (our classifier passed something that shouldn't have gone live).
Reasons we'll usually reject (and why):
- "I want more coins for it, want to re-release at a higher tier" — pricing is locked at publish to protect buyers.
- "I don't like the stats on it" — not a reason to pull paid content.
14. Organizing series
In the My uploads card you can switch between List, Gallery, and Series views. In Series view you'll see each of your series as a drag-reorder card — drag them to control the order they appear on your public creator profile. The order is saved as soon as you drop.
Each series card has Edit to tweak the title, description, premiere date, and planned-episode total (though the pricing bands won't rebalance existing episodes — see section 5).
15. Commissions: get paid to make custom content
Parents can message you directly from your creator profile and request a custom cartoon in exchange for coins. The flow:
- Parent opens a conversation and sends a commission proposal: a short brief ("my daughter Mia loves penguins and ice cream — can you make a 30s cartoon?"), an offered coin amount, and (optionally) the child's name for context.
- You see the proposal as a card inside the thread. Three options: Accept, Counter price, or Reject.
- On accept, the parent's coins are debited from their wallet and held in escrow on the commission itself — not in the standard 14-day pool. You have 14 days to deliver.
- Create the custom video, upload it under one of your Public commissions or Private commissions series (see section 7), then click Mark delivered… inside the thread and pick the video from the dropdown.
- The parent reviews the delivery and either Confirms & releases (the coins pay out to you immediately, no 14-day escrow) or opens a dispute.
- If the parent disputes, an admin reviews the brief, the delivery, and the parent's complaint, and decides the split: full refund, partial refund, or full payout to you.
- If you miss the 14-day delivery window and never ship, the parent can self-cancel for a full refund — no admin needed.
The same 70/30 split applies to commissions. A 500-coin commission pays out $3.50 to you and keeps $1.50 on the platform cut.
16. Watching your own paid content
You can watch any of your own videos — paid or free — for free. The spend endpoint recognizes a creator viewing their own upload and records a zero-coin AdultCoinSpend row so your history and analytics stay complete without ever debiting your wallet.
Watching another creator's paid episode as a signed-in creator costs coins the same way it does for a parent. You buy coin bundles on the Studio Wallet card.
17. Coin balance not updating? Sync with Stripe
Occasionally a Stripe webhook arrives late or gets dropped. If you bought coins and your wallet still shows the old balance after a minute or two:
- Open the Wallet card on your Studio dashboard.
- Click Missing coins? Sync with Stripe.
- We walk the last 48 hours of your paid coin-package sessions on Stripe and credit anything the webhook didn't land. Idempotent — safe to run as many times as you want, you can't double-credit.
Same button exists on the Parent dashboard for parent wallets.
18. Support tickets
At the bottom of the Studio dashboard is a Support form. Use it for anything that doesn't fit a self-serve flow:
- Suggestions for the Studio or the platform.
- A complaint about another creator.
- Payout questions ("my Stripe says succeeded but my Available balance didn't move").
- Anything a Replace or Request-deletion can't solve.
Tickets land in the admin queue and get a human response. If your submission ever shows an error, the form prints the exact error inline — if you report that error text to us in a follow-up, we can almost always fix it from one request.
Happy animating. — KiVio
